Indonesia: Pasung Sudah Berkurang, Namun Tetap Ada

Pentingnya Pengawasan untuk Mengakhiri Kekerasan terhadap Penyandang Disabilitas

(Jakarta, 2 Oktober 2018) - Pemerintah Indonesia telah mengambil sejumlah langkah penting untuk mengakhiri praktik pasung pada orang-orang dengan kondisi kesehatan mental, menurut Human Rights Watch hari ini. Namun, hingga kini masih banyak orang yang dikurung di institusi kejiwaan sehingga tak dapat hidup normal di tengah-tengah masyarakat. 

 

Jumlah orang dengan disabilitas psikososial (kondisi kesehatan mental) yang dipasung atau dikurung dalam ruang tertutup telah menurun dari hampir 18.800 sejak terakhir kali dilaporkan, menjadi 12.800 pada Juli 2018, menurut data pemerintah Indonesia. Perubahan tersebut sebagian didorong adanya upaya penjangkauan masyarakat ke lebih dari 16,2 juta keluarga.
