(New York, February 13, 2017) – Syrian government forces systematically conducted chemical attacks in opposition-controlled parts of Aleppo city during the final month of the battle for the city, Human Rights Watch said today.
Through interviews with witnesses and analysis of video footage and photographs, Human Rights Watch has documented that government government helicopters dropped chemicals, likely chlorine, on at least ten occasions between November 17 and December 13, 2016. The attacks killed at least nine civilians, including four children, and affected hundreds. The timing and location of the attacks suggest that they were coordinated with the overall military strategy to retake the city, Human Rights Watch said.
